The West Texas A&M men’s golf team returns to the Land of Enchantment this week as it travels to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference South Invitational on the par 72, 7,382-yard Paako Ridge Golf Course in Sandia Park, N.M.

Western New Mexico is hosting the tournament as it did two weeks ago when the Buffs finished tied for 17th at the New Mexico State Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.  Along with WT and WNMU, the field this week includes, South Dakota Mines, Westminster (Utah), Colorado Mesa, Colorado State-Pueblo, UC-Colorado Springs, Regis, Colorado Christian, Fort Lewis, Adams State, Colorado Mines, Midwestern State, Lubbock Christian and Cameron.

“This is another good week of competition for us,” WT head coach Eric Moore said.  “There are a lot of really good teams playing at Paako Ridge this week.  The golf course is great and I’m sure it’ll be in great shape.  We need to get the bad taste out of our mouth from our last tournament and come out strong.  I have told the guys we need to focus more on our process instead of outcome.  We have played pretty tight so far and need to loosen up and let go to play the kind of golf we care capable of playing.  I have a really good feeling about the team we are taking and it should be an exciting week.”

WT’s lineup this week features senior Marty Sanchez at the top, followed by senior Ethan Peterson, junior Brandel Woodman, sophomore Angel Aguirre and sophomore Niall Pratt earning his first career lineup start.

The Buffs struggled at the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate Sept. 28-29, finishing tied for 17th.  WT struggled out of the gate firing a 302 in the opening round and came back with a 293 in the second round.  Peterson led the way with a 146 on a pair of 73s.  Aguirre finished tied for 44th with a 147 (74 – 73), while Sanchez carded a 149 on rounds of 76 and 73 finishing tied for 65th.
