West Texas A&M Announces Their 2016-17 Men’s Basketball Schedule

Sports
Coming off of their first 20-win season in five years, West Texas A&M head basketball coach Tom Brown has announced the 2016-17 schedule for the Buffs that features 14 home contests inside of the First United Bank Center along with 16 road matchups including trips to Anaheim, California and Las Vegas, Nevada for tournaments. Game times are still to be determined and the schedule is subject to change.

“Our schedule for 16-17 is going to be a lot of fun but very challenging, all of our non-conference games are against NCAA DII teams. Four of our first six games are against teams that made it to the DII National Tournament last season. Another team was pre-season top 10 last year and returns two players that both averaged over 19 pts a game” said Brown. “ Our non- conference schedule is a bear but we wanted to challenge our team in the pre-season to get ready for the LSC. The LSC has to be one of the best DII conferences in the nation for Men’s Basketball.”

The Lone Star Conference expands to 10 basketball-playing institutions starting in 2016-17 as Western New Mexico (Silver City, New Mexico) and UT Permian Basin (Odessa, Texas) join the league beginning next season.  Each team will play a double round-robin conference schedule with 18 conference games.

NOVEMBER
The Buffs will begin the 2016-17 campaign on the road on November 4-6 as they travel to Anaheim, California for the 11th Annual CCA Division II Tip-Off Classic.  WT will take on Azusa Pacific, St. Cloud State and Arkansas-Fort Smith in the event sponsored by the Division 2 Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA).  The Buffs will host a conference challenge on November 11-12 as they take on Fort Lewis, CO (Friday) and New Mexico Highlands (Saturday) with Eastern New Mexico making the short trip to Canyon for the event.

WT’s first true road contest will come on November 17th as they head south to take on Lubbock Christian before a home game against Oklahoma Panhandle State (Nov. 22) followed by the 2016 Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic on November 25-26 inside of the FUBC as the Buffs take on Wayne State (NE) and Southern Nazarene (OK) with ENMU also taking part in the event.

The Buffs will play three straight home contests to start December as they host Western New Mexico (Dec. 1), Eastern New Mexico (Dec. 3) and UT Permian Basin (Dec. 6) to begin Lone Star Conference play.
