Lady Buffs Head to Dallas Baptist Classic Monday and Tuesday

Fresh off a tournament victory at the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Stampede last week, the Lady Buffs play their third tournament in three weeks as they travel to the Dallas Baptist Classic Monday and Tuesday on the par 72, 5,868-yard Golf Club of Dallas Course.  The tournament is host is Dallas Baptist.

“The team is confident going into this week’s tournament,” WT head coach Meredith Jameson said.  “Coming off a win and having had a few solid practice days, we have focused on putting and chipping.  We had an early practice round which will be beneficial as the team can study the rest of the afternoon Sunday.”

The Lady Buffs are coming off their first tournament win since 2012 as senior Glory Jangthongsiri finished second earning Lone Star Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week honors.  She carded a 2-under 140 with rounds of 72 and 68 at La Paloma Golf Course in Amarillo.  WT edged rival St. Mary’s by one stroke 597 to 598 as the Lady Buffs sat third entering the final round.  The Lady Buffs fired 293 in the final round to overtake both the Rattlers and Wayland Baptist after opening the tournament with a 304.

WT freshman Kaylin Milholland had a career-best finish of seventh in the tournament with a 151 on rounds of 77 and 74, while sophomore Mattye Mason tied for ninth with a 153 (77 – 76).  The four qualifying scores for the final round all were lower for the Lady Buffs than the first round.  Senior Whitlee Woods dropped the most as she opened with an 81 and finished with a 75 tying for 20th.

Along with WT and DBU, the field also includes California Baptist, Central Oklahoma, Newman, Rogers State, Cameron, Texas A&M-Commerce, Oklahoma Christian, Arkansas-Fort Smith, St. Mary’s, Tarleton State, Texas Wesleyan, Academy of Art and Angelo State.
