Of the 150,000 Xcel Energy customers in Texas and New Mexico affected by Wednesday’s extreme wind event, 8,100 remain without electric service this morning, which is about a 98 percent restoration rate.
Xcel has more than 500 field personnel, both employees and contractors, working the remaining 1,062 jobs around the region.
Their assessment teams have identified 95 poles that need to be replaced in the Texas Panhandle today. have completed restoration on all the feeder line outages and are now working on tap line, transformer and individual service outages.
Xcel says they anticipate that by the end of the day today, 99 percent of the customers who can accept service connections will be restored, with the remainder back in service by end of day on Saturday.
Customers who sustained damage to their meter boxes and service masts, which are customer-owned facilities, will need to call an electrician for repairs, who will then arrange an inspection by the appropriate code inspectors before we reconnect service.
