Wreck in Borger leaves 1 man dead

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, one man is dead after a wreck in Hutchinson County.

At around 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, officials were called out to a wreck on SH 136 about a half mile west of Borger.

Steven Williams, 65, was driving a 2009 Harley Davidson Motorcycle when he accelerated to switch lanes and lost control of his motorcycle.

Williams’ motorcycle fell on its side and slid down the road while he came to rest in the right eastbound lane of traffic.

Jacie Huneycutt, 20, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic and was in the lane Williams tried to merge into. Huneycutt had received a text and looked down at her phone at the same time that Williams lost control.

By the time Huneycutt looked up, it was too late for her to react and she hit Williams lying in the road.

Huneycutt then traveled off the roadway into the south barrow ditch where she crashed into a group of trees.

The motorcycle finally stopped in the eastbound lane about 50 to 60 feet from Williams.

Williams was pronounced dead on scene.

Huneycutt was taken to Golden Plains Hospital where she was treated and released.

The wreck is still being investigated by the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
