Women May Soon Be Added To The Draft System

Does the draft discriminate against women?

According to a federal judge in Texas, an all-male military draft is unconstitutional.

District judge gray miller ruling on the case brought forward by the national coalition for men, a men’s rights group made his decision based on the pentagon’s lifted restrictions on women in combat and other military roles in 2015.

Under current federal law, all men have to register with the selective service on their 18th birthday in order to be eligible for federal employment or student loans but women cannot register.

The judge’s ruling came as a declaratory judgment, and the court did not order the government to change the selective service system.

The national commission on the military, national and public service is said to be reviewing the system considering whether the draft will continue and whether it will include women.
