New federal data shows the shear amount of money weather-related events cost the US in 2018.
According to NOAA – weather and climate events last year – cost a whopping one-hundred billion dollars in damages.
There were also 14 separate weather events in 2018 – that resulted in at least one billion dollars in damage.
This included Hurricane Michael – the strongest tropical system to impact the east coast since 1969.
As well as a series of wildfires in California – that accounted for a total of 24 billion dollars in damages.
NOAA says – the growing US population as well as more homes sitting along the coastlines may cause damage amounts to rise even more future.
