UPDATE: Suspect Dead in Walmart

Amarillo Police release more information regarding the work place shooting at Walmart.
The shooter, 54-year-old Mohammad Moghaddam, was a current employee of Walmart.
Officials say he immediately fired one shot into the ceiling and took a store manager hostage and then barricaded himself in an interior office.
Amarillo Police report that a possible motivation may be that Moghaddam may have been passed up for a promotion.
Amarillo SWAT thought there was only one suspect and were surprised to find a second hostage; who was released by the suspect.
The suspect’s family has been notified.
Randall County Judge Houdashell ordered an autopsy.
Two officers fired shots and have been placed on leave for the next three days. That is protocol.
Regarding social media claims/rumors that nothing suspicious was found in the man’s vehicle.
Amarillo Police confirmed that multiple shots were fired in the building.
The Walmart is not open.
Amarillo Police release more information regarding the Walmart incident:
The incident inside the Walmart at 4215 Canyon Drive is still under investigation.  The initial call of an armed person/shooting possible barricaded suspect call came in at about 11:06 a.m. 
Initial information is that this was a workplace violence event. APD and many other agencies responded to the call. 
One or more hostages were taken by a male suspect inside the store.  
APD and officers from other agencies responded and entered the store, and APD SWAT officers also responded. 
At 12:22 p.m., an APD SWAT officer came into contact with the suspect and shot him.  
Initial information is that a hostage or hostages are safe, and no one is injured except the suspect.  
The Special Crimes Unit will take over the investigation and will release more detail as available.  The suspect’s name has not been released.
A suspect is killed by Amarillo SWAT after an active shooter situation at Walmart. 
Police were called to the Walmart near the E-way and Georgia on reports of shots fired just after 11 a.m. Officials report only one shot was heard.
Police are calling the incident work related violence. 
Police say no one else has been reported as injured. 
Several police officers and DPS remain on scene at this time. 
Police are looking to talk to any witnesses who may have been inside of Walmart at the time. 
Suspect has been shot by APD SWAT and is apparently dead. Hostages inside are safe.
The investigation still under way.

At this time there are no confirmed gunshot victims at Wal-Mart. 
Amarillo Police have confirmed that there is one person still being held hostage. 
No shooting ongoing at this moment.
APD and several other agencies are on scene at the Walmart on georgia. There are reports of an armed subject inside who may have hostages.
The City’s Office of Emergency Management, Amarillo Police and Amarillo Fire are on the scene of an active shooter incident at the Walmart on Georgia off of I-27. PLEASE AVOID THE AREA.
