UPDATE 2:07 P.M.:
At 11:11 a.m., Amarillo Fire received a report of an explosion at the Potter-Randall County Appraisal District
When crews arrived, they said they found moderate amounts of smoke throughout the building.
Everyone had already exited the building without any injuries.
Officials said employees reported hearing a loud explosion and then seeing smoke coming from the restroom area.
Firefighters told us they searched the building but did not encounter any fire. Crews said they indicated high levels of Hydrogen Sulfide detected on monitoring equipment.
Hydrogen Sulfide is a dangerous gas and is commonly found in sewers.
Unable to determine the source of the gas, AFD’s Hazardous Materials Team was called. The Hazmat team said they were unable to determine the cause of the explosion or the source of the gas.
We are told the building was ventilated for some time until it was clear of any danger and turned back over to employees.
UPDATE 12:52 P.M.
Amarillo Fire Department Captain Kyle Joy is reporting there was an explosion heard inside the Potter-Randall Appraisal District. offices.
Officials report that no fire has been found but smoke was seen and high levels of dangerous gases are in the building.
The Amarillo Hazmat team is monitoring the situation.
The investigation is ongoing into the incident.
No Injuries have been reported.

The City of Amarillo is reporting the Amarillo Fire Department is working a HAZMAT situation on the 5700 block of Hollywood Road.
Officials warn the public to please avoid the area.
This incident is isolated and is not impacting schools in the area.
