UPDATE: One Person in Critical Condition After House Fire on 16th and Ong

UPDATE:

The Amarillo Fire Department was called to a fire on SW 16th and Ong. This happened just before 6 P.M.

Crews arrived to find light smoke coming from a single-story building on 1223 SW 16th.

Witnesses reported they heard an explosion and that there was a person inside.

According to officials, firefighters rescued the man and he received medical attention. He was flown to Lubbock with life-threatening injuries.

The Amarillo Fire Marshal’s Office determined the origin of the fire was the couch in the living room.

According to officials, it appears that some sort of explosion started the fire, but the cause is undetermined at this time.

Damages are estimated to be around $25,000.
