UPDATE: Hereford ISD Places Aikman Elementary in Lock & Hold Due to Law Enforcement Situation

UPDATE: 4:09 P.M.:

Students from Aikman Elementary in Hereford are moved to the Hereford ISD Building because of a SWAT situation near the school.

School officials said the incident is three blocks away.

The Deaf Smith County Sherriff and US Marshals tell our crew at the scene that they are in charge of the investigation. 

DPS officials say they and the Randall County SWAT team were also there for backup.

Our crew says law enforcement was leaving at around 3:30 p.m. 

Hereford ISD released this statement: 

“Hereford ISD would like to update the public that all Aikman students and staff have been taken to the Hereford ISD administration building and were released from that location. We appreciate everyone’s assistance during this situation. We would like to ask everyone to continue to keep all first responders in your thoughts and prayers.

Hereford ISD has placed Aikman Elementary on a lock and hold due to a law enforcement situation going on about three blocks away.

We are told Amarillo SWAT and the US Marshal is on scene.

The district said will be keeping all students and staff inside until further notice from law enforcement.  

They also said everyone on the campus is safe and the school will not open the doors for anyone at this time.
