Think frozen foods may help you lose weight? Think again!
A US-government led trial suggests that those who east mostly ultra-processed foods will take in more calories and gain more weight than those who eat mostly unprocessed foods even if the diets begin with the same amounts of carbs, fats, and other nutrients.
The national institute of diabetes and digestive and kidney diseases recruited 20 healthy volunteers for a month-long study showing those on the ultra-processed diet ate about 500 more calories a day and gained about a pound during the two-week period while those on the unprocessed diet lost a pound.
The result of the study was published Thursday in the Cell Metabolism journal.
