Two People Injured After Car Hits Them on East I-40

On Tuesday night, Amarillo Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle striking two pedestrians on the 8400 block of I-40 East/south frontage road. 
Officers found that a vehicle had hit two pedestrians. 
The suspect vehicle, a silver colored SUV, then fled the scene.  
A 57-year-old male was pushing a 51-year-old female in a wheel chair in the right hand lane when the collision happened.  Both were taken to a local hospital with what were initially believed to be life-threatening injuries.  
Both were treated and released from the hospital.  
Alcohol consumption by the pedestrians and the pedestrian in roadway violations are factors in this collision.

The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Dept.
