Turns Out Bees Can Do Basic Math

Bees aren’t just good at making honey – they can crunch numbers, too!

A study published in “Science Advances” says honeybees – despite their miniature brains – can be trained to add and subtract.

The research was conducted at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.

The scientists say the discovery sheds light on the relationship between brain size and brain power.

The study’s authors say their findings suggest an advanced understanding of numbers may be more accessible to non-humans than previously believed.

The researchers say honeybees have joined the short list of nonhumans that can add and subtract.

The roster also includes chimpanzees, African grey parrots, and spiders.
