An Amarillo man arrested twice last week for taking loaded guns into an Amarillo church is now facing federal charges and is back in jail tonight.
A federal complaint unsealed today against Kevin Winkle, 52, charges him with possession of a firearm in a school zone.
The complaint said Winkle talked to police about recent church shootings and kept asking if he would, “make the news.”
According to documents, during a search of his home on Friday, September 14, FBI and Amarillo Police found several items, including a partially smoked marijuana cigar, and other evidence of drug use.
Winkle was arrested for carrying a loaded gun into St. Mary’s Church twice. The second time police said they found two rifles stored in violin cases in his car.
