Texas medical student undergoes six brain surgeries

A medical student is more than a student at a Houston hospital.

She’s also a patient.

That’s because Claudia Martinez has Chiari Malformation.

Her brain tissue extends into her spinal cord.

The condition could cause paralysis.

Claudia was diagnosed as an undergraduate after suffering from headaches and blackouts.

Since then, she’s had six brain surgeries.

And she’s been treated at the University of Texas at Houston, where she’s a student.

Claudia is also helping others, by mentoring students and organizing the “Conquer Chiari” five-k walk.

Claudia says she thanks God every day for what she’s been through.
