Celebrating National Popcorn Day

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) –January 19th is celebrated as National Popcorn Day.

Popcorn became popular in the U.S. in the mid 1800’s and became more popular once the popcorn machine was created. Even by the year 1900 there were horse-drawn popcorn wagons traveling through the streets of Chicago.

FOR THE PEANUT BUTTER POPCORN:

  • POPCORN (3 CUPS)
  • CORN SYRUP(1/4 CUP)
  • WHITE SUGAR(1/4 CUP)
  • PEANUT BUTTER(1/4 CUP)
  • COOK SYRUP AND SUGAR FOR ABOUT 3-4 MINUTES, ADD IN PEANUT BUTTER, COOK FOR ONE MINUTE, POUR ON POPCORN.

FOR THE CARAMEL POPCORN:

  • BROWN SUGAR(1 & 1/8 CUP)
    -CORN SYRUP(1/2 CUP)
    -BUTTER(1/2 CUP)
  • -SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK(1/2 CAN)
    -VANILLA(1/2 TSP)
  • HEAT SUGAR, SYRUP, AND BUTTER, BOIL FOR TWO MINUTES. STIR IN MILK AND VANILLA, POUR ON POPCORN.

FOR THE MARSHMALLOW POPCORN BALLS:

  • POPCORN(3 CUPS)
  • MINI MARSHMALLOW(1 CUP)
  • CORN SYRUP(1/4 CUP)
  • BUTTER(1 TBSP)
    -WATER(1/2 TSP)
    -POWDERED SUGAR(1/2 CUP + 2 TBSP)
    -VANILLA(1/2 TSP)
  • SALT(DASH)
  • PUT DOWN WAX PAPER, MIX POPCORN AND MARSHMALLOWS. COMBINE SYRUP, BUTTER, WATER, SUGAR, AND MARSHMALLOWS. HEAT TO A BOIL, WHISK IN VANILLA AND SALT. POUR OVER POPCORN. LET COOL, SHAPE INTO BALLS.
