State Reporting More Flu Cases in Texas Panhandle

The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) released their latest surveillance report on the Flu in Texas.

The DSHS reported that the flu activity cases rose in the Amarillo Health Service Region.

The following counties reported a rapid positive test flu in the past week:

  • Dallam
  • Sherman
  • Hansford
  • Ochiltree
  • Hartley
  • Moore
  • Hutchinson
  • Hemphill
  • Oldham
  • Potter
  • Gray
  • Wheeler
  • Deaf Smith
  • Armstrong
  • Donley
  • Collingsworth
  • Hall
  • Childress

Flu B was confirmed in the following counties:

  • Hansford

Flu A was confirmed in Swisher County.

The following panhandle counties reported cases of flu-like illness:

  • Roberts
  • Armstrong
  • Hardeman

Briscoe County is the only county not reporting any flu.

Right now Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting five types of flu that are testing positive in the state of Texas. (Flu B (Yamagata), Flu B (lineage not determined), Flu A (not subtyped), Flu A (H1N1), Flu A (H3N2), and Other)

2,355 Pneumonia & Influenza deaths have been reported in Texas during the 2017-2018 influenza season. (October 1, 2017 – January 24, 2018)

84 of those deaths were in the Amarillo Health Service Region which includes all of the Texas panhandle.
