The Amarillo Sod Poodles hosted their first job fair on Saturday, Feb. 16. Opening season is approaching soon and positions need to be filled.
“Amarillo is definitely excited and it shows with the candidates that have shown up today,” Nick Hall, Director of Partnerships stated. “I mean we’ve had some tremendous people come out that we’ve had the opportunity to meet that will be working here throughout the summer.”
The job fair attendees lined up with a pen and paper in hand to get first dibs on the open positions.
Shane Philipps, Director of Public Relations, said that there were hundreds of open spots that needed to be filled.
“Every minor league baseball team has a ton…from promotions to ticket takers, concessions, food operations, catering the list goes on,” Philipps said.
Hiring managers said it is a great opportunity for someone looking for their first job. Applicants as young as 16 years old can apply.
“The best case scenario for anyone, any first-time job seekers looking to get your foot in the door just getting real-life experience,” Philipps said. “We’re here to provide that and really show what it takes to really work out in the real world.”
Hall said he wants people to enjoy their experience working for the Sod Poodles.
“When it boils down to it although we’re all doing a job you are getting paid to be at a baseball stadium throughout the summer and really nothing’s as good as that,” Hall said.
Philipps said that they will not have another job fair this year but people can still apply throughout the season.
