Eggs at some major fast food chains aren’t always what they seem.
It all started when Panera Bread petitioned the Food and Drug Administration to clearly define what an egg is.
The company saying a lack of definition means restaurants can combine eggs with additional elements including added flavorings, xanthan gum, and artificial coloring.
Panera officials say some of their competitors like Taco Bell, Dunkin’, and Burger King have egg patties that contain more than five ingredients.
Meanwhile, cartons of eggs purchased at grocery stores don’t have these additives.
