Sen. Kel Seliger to Serve as Governor for a Day

There will be a new governor in town, for one day at least. 

Sen. Kel Seliger (R-Amarillo) is set to serve one day as the Governor of Texas next Friday. 

In Texas, the President Pro Tempore is called to serve as the governor while the Governor and the Lieutenant Governor are out of state. 

Seliger was sworn in as the President Pro Tempore on Jan. 10. 

During his 24-hour stent as governor, Seliger plans to visit his constituents with events planed in Big Spring, Midland, and Amarillo. 

"While most Governor for a Day celebrations are spent in Austin, I will be in Senate District 31 with friends and constituents," Seliger said in a statement. "I want to be with the people who put me in office."

According to a release from the Senators office, the celebration is a tradition that goes back 60 years. 

Seliger's schedule includes: 

Breakfast - 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Big Spring High School, 707 E. 11th Place. 

Lunch - 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
MAC's Bar-B-Que and Catering, 2400 W. Indiana Ave., Midland. 

Ice Cream Social - 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. 
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Campus Rotunda, 800 W. 4th St., Odessa. 

Dinner - 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Youngblood's Cafe, 620 SW 16th Ave., Amarillo.
