Salvation Army Prepares for Colder Weather

Salvation Army is the biggest shelter in the Texas Panhandle. 230 people can sleep in there on an average night.

This weekend though, they are expecting 270 to 280 people because of the weather.

A spokeswoman for the Salvation Army, Stephanie Pena, said they also prepare 400 to 500 meals to all people of all ages.

Pena said, “We do have beds right now and then we do have just a few cots but a lot of the cots you know they do get broken really easily. We have a lot of clients that are coming in that have mental health issues because they’ve exhausted their resources elsewhere so the Salvation Army is here to help.”

The Salvation Army is always accepting donations and not just money. They also accept donations of twin-sized bed sheets, pillows, blankets, and canned foods.
