ORIGINAL –

A driver has to be cut out of a van after it collides head-first with a semi.

It happened about an hour ago, at 9:53 p.m.  on Sherrill Drive and Saint Francis Avenue. That’s just east of Dumas drive in north Amarillo.

Witnesses at the scene tell our crew that the van was driving westbound in the wrong lane.

The driver was taken to the hospital, but we don’t yet know how extensive their injuries are.

According to officials at the scene, the semi was driving eastbound. The semi truck driver was not taken to the hospital.

We’ll update this story as we get more information.
