Reminder to use non-emergency phone line

News

The Amarillo Emergency Communications Center tends to see an increase in calls during the summer months. Amarillo Police Department wants to remind people to use the non-emergency number for non-emergencies.

With the rise of calls, callers reporting non-emergency calls or not in-progress criminal offenses could see longer wait times.

All calls are put in order when they come in and all calls are important, but in-progress criminal offenses and emergency calls are dispatched before delayed criminal offense calls.

APD wants to remind everyone that online and phone reporting is offered for anyone who wants to quickly report a non-emergency or delayed criminal offense report.

The following offenses can be made through the non-emergency police line or online:

  • Burglary of Vehicle-Loose Items
  • Burglary of Vehicle-Parts/Accessories
  • Burglary of Habitation-Open Garage
  • Credit Card Abuse
  • Criminal Nonsupport
  • Debit Card Abuse
  • Employer/Employee Theft
  • Forgery
  • Harassment
  • Identity Theft
  • Interference with Child Custody
  • Lost Gun
  • Lost Property
  • Simple Assault
  • Theft
  • Theft of Service
  • Vandalism

The number for the non-emergency line is 806-378-3038 or you can visit the Amarillo Police Department Website.

Online and phone reports are assigned to an investigator and taken as seriously as reports taken in the field by officers.

In some cases, phone and inline reports may be assigned to an investigator more quickly than reports taken in the field because they are immediately entered into the records management system.

Submitting reports over the phone or online also greatly assists the Police Department by freeing up officers to respond more promptly to emergency calls and in-progress criminal offenses.
