Progress on Former North Branch YMCA Being Made

Progress on the former North Branch YMCA building is being made.

The Parks and Recreation Board got an update on those renovations, today.

The newly renamed C. E. Warford Activity Center is becoming the city’s only owned and operated recreation center.

The contract to renovate the pool and gym were awarded earlier this summer.

The commercial kitchen is also being renovated.

“The scope of the project has changed periodically through the 12 month period, as had some of the funding sources,” said Rod Tweet, Director of Amarillo Parks and Recreation. “We are to the point now where we finalize at least the phase one scope of the project and finalize the funding ready for this renovation.”

When the renovation is over, Tweet said the city will continue to operate an after school program in that building.

The city purchased the North Branch YMCA 18 months ago.
