UNION COUNTY, NM - Clayton Public Schools and Des Moines Public Schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution, according to the Union County Sheriff's Office.
Officials said New Mexico Homeland Security made contact with local law enforcement regarding a Snapchat post indicating Union would be "shot up" at 1 p.m. February 23.
We are told Des Moines and Clayton Public School Districts were immediately placed on lockdown, and law enforcement conducted a complete search of all the schools.
Officials with the sheriff's office said the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security eventually made contact with Union County's Emergency Manager Dusty Russell and informed him that the threat was directed toward Union, Oklahoma.
The lockdown was lifted at both schools once the investigation was complete.
