Potter County Sheriff’s Department Looking For Suspect That Pointed Long Gun at Deputy

On Wednesday evening, a Potter County Sheriff’s Deputy in a marked Potter County Sheriff’s Patrol Unit was stopped in the gravel area south west of the intersection of Givens and Broadway.

A man parked a vehicle 75 yards north of the patrol unit and the The deputy could see the man handling a long gun inside the vehicle.

The deputy immediately maneuvered the patrol unit around to the north to face the subject and observed the suspect, a white male exit his vehicle and point riffle at the Deputy.

The Deputy then exited the vehicle and went to the rear of patrol unit to place the patrol unit between the two.

The suspect yelled at the deputy in a threatening manner and moved towards the deputy aggressively. There was additional verbal exchange between the two and the suspect abruptly stopped and retreated to his vehicle and sped away west on Givens.

The deputy drove after the suspect but lost sight of the vehicle in the area of Givens and Skipper.

The deputy continued driving the area and again located the suspect vehicle a second time in that same area but lost him again in the area of Broadway and Nez Perce.

The suspect was last seen south on Broadway and a high rate of speed.

Potter County Deputies, Officers with the Amarillo Police Department, and the DPS Helicopter searched the area but the suspect was not located.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a dark color older model smaller SUV type vehicle, possibly a Jeep Cherokee or Ford Explorer.
