Potter County Drug Bust

AMARILLO - A Potter County Deputy stopped a white Jeep for a traffic offense on I-40 and MM 58.

It happened Wednesday afternoon at 1:50 p.m.

Authorities say during the traffic stop, a K9 was called to the scene and alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the Jeep.

A search revealed about 1 ½ lbs. of marijuana and five bottles (5 oz. each bottle) of Promethazine with codeine were located in the vehicle.

26-year-old Eric Russell Hoffman was booked into the Potter County Detention Center.

He was arrested for felony Possession of marijuana and felony Possession of a Controlled Substance.

This investigation is still ongoing.

The street value of the marijuana is $7500 and the value of the Promethazine is about $1000.

Promethazine is available only with a prescription and is used as a cough suppressant.

Recently, people have been using this product to get high by using more than the suggested dose.

Officials say it's believed this product was made in Mexico because of the labels being written in Spanish.
