The city of Portales is planning a kickoff to summer activities with a big Saturday Sale Day.
The Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce and the Portales Main Street are sponsoring a community-wide garage and sidewalk sale day on Saturday June 4th in Portales.
The organizations are urging individuals as well as businesses to hold yard sales, rummage sales, church bazaars and sidewalk and in-store specials on that day.
“We thought this would be an excellent start to the summer season and give people throughout the area to shop in Portales,” said Chamber Executive Director Karl Terry.
“Garage sales are fun but our local businesses have lots to offer this time of year as everyone is gearing up for summer. While people are downtown we hope when they’re through shopping they’ll pop into one of our many restaurants and watering holes for breakfast or lunch or just to cool off with a drink.”
Terry says the individual garage sales registered so far start as early as 7 a.m. Among those sales is one being organized by the Friendship Extension Club being held at the Jake Lopez Building.
Another sale at 1117 N. Ave. K will benefit a St. Helens Fiesta Queen candidate.
The Thomas family will hold a multifamily sale at their business the Print Shop from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Businesses planning sidewalk sales include Bar G Western Wear, Merle Norman/Fashion Girl, Valley Furniture and Prestige Carpet.
If individuals or businesses haven’t registered their sale with the Chamber yet they can do so by calling 356-8541.
There is no charge to participate.
The Chamber staff will update the map online as it changes.
The Chamber will have a table on the sidewalk from 8-10 a.m. that Saturday with copies of the latest map, free peanuts and other goodies and garage sale bargains.
