Police Seeking Witnesses in Early Morning Shots Fired Call

Amarillo police are seeking any witnesses on an early morning shots fired call in south Amarillo.

On July 19 at 4:50 a.m., officers responded to the area of 41st and S. Ong Street on calls from people that heard shots being fired in the area.

Police say in addition to those calls, there were calls reporting a man knocking on doors and windows on the 4400 block of S. Hayden as though he was trying to get someone to let him into a residence or get assistance.

Officers did not find the man or the person shooting, however, they did discover that a white vehicle in the driveway in front of a home in the 4400 block of S. Hayden had what an officer described as several bullet impacts on the right side of the vehicle.

We are told by officers that bullets had also hit the home where the car was parked.

Residents of the home told officers that they heard shots outside and heard the shots hit the home but did not know who fired them. After the shots were fired, they saw officers outside and came out to report the shots hitting the home.

Officers found casings in front of a home next door to the house that was hit by the shots.

Police say that this indicated that the shots were fired from the yard at 4400 S. Hayden.

The witnesses at the home hit by bullets did not know why their vehicle or home was involved.

If you have any information about this incident, please contact the Amarillo Police Department at 378-3038 or call Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 374-4400.
