Despite the recent rains in the area, drought conditions remain largely unchanged in the state over the past week. Just over 25% of Texas is still in a drought according to the US Drought monitor. This number is virtually unchanged from last week’s.
All Texas panhandle counties are abnormally dry or in a stage 1 moderate drought.
Lubbock has received only 1.16″ of rain so far this year, while Amarillo has even less, with only 0.98″. Both cities are running about 2″ below average for the year.
The monitor estimates 102,114 people are affected by the drought. That is only 4.06-percent of the state of Texas, which is up nearly a full percent from last week.
