Oxycontin Maker Considers Bankruptcy


The maker of Oxycontin is preparing a possible bankruptcy filing.

The Wall Street Journal reports Purdue Pharma is exploring the idea as a way to contain liability from hundreds of lawsuits alleging it fueled the nation’s opioid epidemic.

Some 1,600 municipalities have sued the company saying its aggressive marketing of prescription painkillers helped hook the nation on opioids.

Purdue has denied the allegations.
