(NBC News) Amid news of the horrifying tragedy in Orlando words like “fun-loving”, “happy” and “amazing” are emerging as friends and families of the shooting victims remember their loved ones.
Dozens were shot. 49 lost their lives.
34-year-old Edward Sotomayor was one of those who died. Known as “Eddie” to his friends and remembered as an “angel”, a popular, fun-loving guy whose top hats made others smile.
“Fun-loving” is also how Gertrude Merced remembers her son, Enrique Rios.
Rios lived in New York and went to Orlando for a quick weekend trip.
“He had a heart for the elderly. He loved taking care of them,” she said. “He lived with his grandma because he wanted to take care of her.”
Angel Colon’s son was one of the 53 wounded in the massacre. He was shot multiple times at the club, but is expected to survive.
“God protected you. God is giving you another chance. That’s what I told him,” Colon said after visiting his son in the hospital.
