#OnlineToday: ‘Ghost Apples’ and Frozen 2

News

Here is what is happening online today:

Michigan “Ghost Apples”

The freezing rain in Michigan earlier this week created an unusual icy phenomenon called “Ghost Apples.”

The freezing rain coated rotting apples, creating a solid icy shell around them.

When the trees were pruned, the apples would shake, causing many of them to fall off, ice and all. With a few of them, the mush slipped out of the bottom of the ice casing, leading to a “Ghost Apple.”

Abandoned Houston Tiger Moved to New Home

A tiger that was found abandoned in Houston Monday has arrived at its new home in North Texas.

The 400-pound male tiger is now at the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison.

He was discovered last week by a woman who says she went into an abandoned house to smoke marijuana. When she saw the tiger, she thought she might have been hallucinating so she waited to call authorities.

Houston’s Animal Enforcement Division came, tranquilized the tiger and took him to his new home.

The big cat very slowly moved out of his cage to explore his new habitat.

The ranch is an animal sanctuary founded 40-years ago by the author and animal advocate Cleveland Amory.
