One dead after police-involved shooting in Dalhart

One man is dead after pulling a gun on officers in Dalhart on Sunday, April, 14.

At around 1 p.m., officers with the Dalhart Police Department made contact with Augustus Combs, 27, who had an outstanding warrant.

Combs ran from the police, leading officers on a chase to a storage facility located on Strong Road.

According to the Dalhart Police Department, when officers approached Combs and attempted to take him into custody, Combs raised his shirt and pulled out a handgun.

Officers opened fire striking Combs several times. 

Officers with Texas DPS, Dallam County Sheriff’s Office and Hartley County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene to lend assistance and began rendering first aid to Combs. 

Combs was pronounced dead on scene. 

Texas Rangers and the 69th District Attorney’s Office were called and the investigation has been handed over to the Texas Rangers.
