New research shows significant advantages of using high dose flu vaccines in nursing homes.
A study of more than 50,000 nursing home residents found those who got a high dose shot were one-percent less likely to be hospitalized for flu-related complications than patients who got the standard vaccine.
And while that may not sound like much experts say it would translate to thousands fewer hospitalizations nationwide each flu season.
The high dose vaccine was four times stronger than the standard flu shot.
The cdc reports the risk of hospitalization is one in five during the flu season for nursing home residents.
