Hey Amarillo, a new podcast is focusing on all things Amarillo.
Jason Boyett decided to start it after seeing how popular podcasts are right now and realizing there isn’t anything specifically geared towards the city.
“I really haven’t heard of a podcast that is just micro-focused on a single place like this one is. I don’t want millions of listeners, I don’t think there is any way I would ever have them but I’d love to have listeners who live in Amarillo and are interested in what is going on here,” said Boyett.
Boyett has released eight episodes so far, talking to Mayor Ginger Nelson, Wes Reeves from Xcel Energy, Pastor Anthony Harris, and many others.
Boyett says these interviews are giving him the opportunity to talk about the growth happening in the city and some of the local issues we are facing.
“Poverty and economics and race and a lot of the tough issues and conversations we need to have.”
“I hope I am opening doors and opening eyes and starting some conversations, that’s what I would like to do,” added Boyett.
Boyett is keeping Hey Amarillo diverse by interviewing people from all walks of life, that way listeners are able to hear about things they may not know about.
“I think people in Amarillo and people everywhere, they get caught up in their own communities, so they know what is going on in their church and they know what is going on at their school but they don’t know what is going on across Amarillo and so that is why I think talking to voices that are outside maybe your comfort zone and outside your sphere of influence and hearing those experiences and hearing those perspectives is so valuable,” said Boyett.
Along with working on the podcast, Boyett is also a journalist and an author of several books.
