Schools in Texas are now legally required to notify parents within five days when an occurrence of head lice is discovered.
This is due to a new state law, Senate Bill 1566.
The notice would not identify the child who has head lice but will include guidance for students and parents to treat head lice.
“We want to help our kids,” said Patricia Miranda, AISD’s Student Health Services Program Director. “We want to help them stay in school, and we want to help educate our parents so that we can hopefully have better control of the head lice situation we have at school.”
The law also requires the parents of the students affected to be notified within 48 hours.
