Amarillo ISD Athletics Director Brad Thiessen has announced Coach Mike Moffitt as the New head volleyball coach at Amarillo High School.
Thiessen said Moffitt’s name will be presented to the AISD Board of Trustees for approval on March 18.
Moffitt is currently the high school principal at Brownfield High School. From 1998-2002, he was a student assistant with the Texas Tech University women’s volleyball club team while participating with the Texas Tech men’s volleyball club team as a player and coach from 1998 to 2002, spent one year stint at All Saints Episcopal School in Lubbock, was an assistant coach for Texas Tech from 2002 to 2008, spent one year at University of North Dakota as the top assistant, and the head volleyball coach at Estacado High School for three years.
Thiessen said Moffitt has still been involved with volleyball as a coach in various club programs for the past 19 years in the Lubbock area.
“During the interview process, it became clear Coach Moffitt and his leadership style were a perfect fit to lead our volleyball program,” Athletic Director Brad Thiessen stated. “He brings with him an extraordinary amount of Division 1 collegiate and high school coaching experience. His recommendations from many of the best volleyball coaches in the state are outstanding. We have a great future in store under Coach Moffitt, and I firmly believe he is the right coach to continue the elite level and strong tradition expected of the Amarillo High volleyball program. We are thrilled to welcome Coach Moffitt and his family to Amarillo.”
Moffitt graduated from Texas Tech in 2002 with a B.S. in Exercise Sports Science and received a Master’s Degree in Sports Management in 2004. He finished his second Master’s Degree in 2014 from Lubbock Christian University in Educational Leadership and he is currently working on his doctorate degree from Texas Tech University.
