Murphy battles Senators over best pizza in the U.S.

News

Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) is staking Connecticut’s claim in an epic pizza-based battle for top pie in the nation.

On Tuesday, Murphy tweeted that pizza in the Tri-State area reigns supreme; and that pizza from anywhere other than Connecticut, New York, or New Jersey, is not authentic pie.

A few hours later, Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) fired back at Murphy’s tweet, dismissing quality of Connecticut’s pizza, going so far as to compare it with cheese and crackers.

Peters included in his tweet a link to an article in “Food & Wine” magazine that featured high praise of Detroit-style pie.

What started this whole pizza battle was a Washington DC area reporter asking if anyone actually thinks Chicago pizza is better than New Haven pizza.
