Murder Victim Identified

AMARILLO — The woman murdered west of Amarillo earlier this week had been reported as a missing person.

Randall county sheriff’s deputies have identified the victim as Robin Diane Spielbauer, 32.

She suffered blunt force trauma to the head and a single gunshot wound.

There was nothing inside her car, like a purse or wallet, to help identify her.  Investigators had to use fingerprints.

Spielbauer’s body was found on a remote road about a half mile west of Amarillo lying next to her SUV.

Investigators noticed the injuries to her head but, didn’t know Spielbauer had also been shot until the autopsy was performed.

Randall county sheriff Joel Richardson says the victim was killed in the spot where she was found either late Monday night or in the overnight hours early Tuesday.

“She had been at her home and left late in the evening (Monday).  That’s the last anybody heard from her.  in fact, her family had reported her as a missing person.” Richardson said.

Sheriff Richardson wouldn’t say what precipitated her leaving but, they have subpoenaed Spielbauers phone records.

Investigators have interviewed dozens of potential witnesses including Spielbauers ex-husband.  But so far, no suspects have been identified.

Spielbauer’s body was found by two passersby driving northbound on Helium road Tuesday afternoon.
