Another piece of the puzzle is in place for Amarillo to land a AA affiliated minor league baseball team.
The city of San Antonio announced Thursday that the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, a AAA team, would move to the Alamo city if voters approve a $75 million downtown stadium.
That move would leave the AA San Antonio Missions without a home.
That’s where Amarillo comes in.
The President of the Missions, Burl Yarbrough, confirmed that Amarillo is one of three cities they’re looking at for possible relocation.
In fact, Yarbrough said team officials met with Amarillo city leaders two weeks ago about the possibility of moving.
Nothing is set in stone yet, but the Sky Sox move to San Antonio is one of the pieces that has to fall in place in order for Amarillo to get the Missions to move here.
Amarillo residents helped the cause by approving the Multi Purpose Event Venue (MPEV) last fall.
Now, it’s up to San Antonio voters to approve a $75 million stadium to get the Sky Sox to move there.
They likely won’t vote until May 6, 2017, so the wait continues.
