An astounding 64 percent of millennials – those ages 18 to 34 – do not own a credit card.

That’s according to a new study by Bankrate.com which also finds credit card usage increases with age.

It found 55 percent of 30 to 49 year olds have credit cards, 62 percent of those aged 50 to 64 use them and 68 percent of people 65 years old and older own a credit card.

When used correctly, a credit card can help establish a healthy credit score which is valuable when trying to get a lease, a loan or mortgage.
