One of the biggest roping events was all started in honor of three young men who passed away 22 years ago.
Todd Fincher, Jody Hart, and C.M. Kuhlman died in a car accident and people in the community put together the Three Star Memorial Roping event.
More than 170 contestants participate in this event. There is a junior invitational for ropers 9- 11 years old. There is a 14-18-year-old girl’s roping event and a 14-18-year-old boy’s roping event.
Donors contribute to this event for a scholarship fund. Four scholarships are given to WTAMU students, Two are given to the 14-18-year-old girl ropers, two are given to the 14-18-year-old boys, and over 20 are given to the 9-11-year-olds.
Event coordinator, Jordan Fabrizio is a recipient of the Three Star Memorial Scholarship. She said it was because of this scholarship that she was able to go to WTAMU.
“This scholarship gave me an opportunity to go to school and get involved with roping,” Fabrizio said. “It not only got involved with roping but with the community. There are so many people who come together to put this event on. It’s nice to see that we’re carrying on the legacy of the three boys who started it all.”
Fabrizio said last year, they raised $30,000. She expects more will be raised this year due to a bigger turnout.
