Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson is today’s featured speaker during the League of Women Voters program during lunch today at Saltgrass Steakhouse. The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. and attendees will order individually from the menu. Visitors are invited to attend.
Elected in 2017, Mayor Nelson will speak on “Changes and Challenges in Amarillo.” Her talk will be followed by a question-and-answer period as time permits.
The Mayor, who grew up in Spearman, graduated from Texas Tech University with degrees in Spanish, advertising and law. She and her husband, Kevin, settled in Amarillo and now manage multiple businesses, including a law firm, commercial real estate management and a local franchise hotel, My Place. They are the parents of three children.
Mayor Nelson has served on several boards and commissions, including the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation. Besides playing an active role in her children’s school organizations and her church, she has volunteered for Boy Scout Troop 86, the Amarillo Symphony Guild, the Amarillo Area Bar Association, the Plemons-Eakle Neighborhood Association and Kids, Inc.
