Police arrest a New York man for faking his own abduction; all to avoid paying a $50,000 Super Bowl pool payout.
Cops say 60-year-old Robert Brandel of North Tonawanda organized the pool then couldn’t make the money when he lost and tried to skip out paying winners with an elaborate plot.
One that had cops finding him tied up inside his pick-up truck in a Newfane parking lot.
Brandel reportedly telling officers two men involved in his Super Bowl squares game robbed him of $16,000.
Then, they drove him around for two days and left him tied up in the car.
Officers became suspicious when Brandel didn’t show any signs of trauma or stress.
Police took branded into custody and charged him with fraud and falsely reporting an incident.
He’s due back at the Newfane town court later this month.
