The Special Crimes Unit has identified the deceased man as Damon Landon Messer, 41.
Justice of the Peace Kyle Balke has ordered an autopsy to be completed in Lubbock on Friday morning.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
ORIGINAL - Feb. 13:
A 41-year-old man is dead after a shooting in southwest Amarillo.
According to Cpl. Jeb Hilton with the Amarillo Police Department, police were called around 7 p.m. on a disorderly conduct call to the parking lot of the Family Life Church on the 3900 block SW 58th Ave.
Cpl. Hilton said the two men are not linked in any way to the church.
When our crew arrived on the scene, they said officers were working to get parishioners out of the church safely and calmly.
There were no other injuries reported during this situation.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Police are investigating what may have lead up to the shooting.
