Amarillo ISD Board discusses high school graduation plans

Local News

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Amarillo ISD is going to do what is called a hybrid graduation. They will first have a virtual graduation for seniors that administrators will be starting to record videos and speeches for next week.

Seniors will then later have a chance to get professional photos with their diploma while still abiding by the social distance guidelines. This plan seems to be one that they are still trying to work out how the process will work.

The late part of June is the earliest they could have an in-person face to face graduation, but AISD Superintendent, Doug Loomis, seems skeptical.

“It’s looking less and less likely that that will be in June,” says Loomis. “I think July is still a very viable opportunity for us to have either an outdoor or indoor or maybe even an abridged type of face-to-face graduation that we will look at as we move through the Summer months.”

We will have more tonight on KAMR Local 4 News at 10:00, Fox 14 News at 9:00 and here on this page.
