The Texas Department of Public Safety released more information regarding a fatal wreck on I-40, Monday.
According to DPS, Madison Mangum, 20, of Borger was killed in a wreck on I-40 east of Amarillo. DPS said Mangum’s vehicle was stalled across the center stripe of westbound I-40, due to a previous crash.
A second vehicle did not see Mangum’s vehicle and hit the passenger side door causing Mangum to be ejected from the vehicle said DPS.
Mangum was declared dead on the scene by the Potter County Justice of the Peace. The driver of the second vehicle was treated at the hospital and then released.
The crash is under investigation.

POTTER COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety announced that I-40 was reopened to traffic in the wake of the fatal Monday morning wreck.

POTTER COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that one person was killed in the Monday morning wreck on I-40, east of FM 1912, and one person was hospitalized.
Westbound traffic on I-40 in the area was still shut down after 11 a.m. Monday, and officials with DPS noted that the traffic impact was expected to continue.

POTTER COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety released further details on the Monday morning crash near the I-40 and South Masterson Road exit.
According to officials, the crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Monday on I-40, east of FM 1912, and involved a truck tractor that was towing three other truck tractors, a pickup truck, and a rental truck towing a passenger car. The investigation into the crash was noted as being still underway.

MyHighPlains.com Staff on the scene further reported that responding crews were continuing to work to clear the area of the wreck.

POTTER COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – According to MyHighPlains.com Staff on the scene, traffic remained at a standstill in the area west of the I-40 and South Masterson Road exit on Monday morning as emergency personnel continued to respond to a wreck that killed at least one person and involved at least two semi-trucks and one pickup.
The Texas Department of Transportation Highway Conditions map showed the traffic impact of the wreck west of the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport along I-40, and staff on the scene continued to note multiple agencies responding to and investigating the wreck.

POTTER COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – According to MyHighPlains.com Staff on the scene, first responders were responding Monday morning west of the I-40 and South Masterson Road exit, around mile marker 82, to a fatal crash involving at least two semi-trucks and one pickup truck.
MyHighPlains.com Staff on the scene noted that there appeared to be at least one fatality from the wreck and that agencies including the Texas Department of Public Safety and Potter County Fire-Rescue were responding to the scene.
The Texas Department of Transportation Highway Conditions map showed that westbound I-40 near the South Masterson Road exit was severely backed up with traffic as of 7:20 a.m., near the scene of the wreck. On social media, TxDOT Amarillo announced that westbound I-40 was closed at mile marker 85 in Groom “due to a wreck at mile marker 81.”

Drivers in the area should expect delays or detours as agencies respond to the scene of the wreck and be aware of emergency personnel on or near the roadway.
