UPDATE: 3 students taken into juvenile detention after handgun was confiscated by police and school administration

CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — UPDATE: The Canyon Police Department reports that three students have been taken into juvenile detention after bringing a handgun onto the Canyon High School’s campus.

Canyon Police said Canyon High Administration received a report from a student that another student had a gun in their possession. CPD said it was notified and officers responded.

Police said that the three students hid the gun outside of the school after administrators started a search.

The three students admitted to hiding the gun and led officers to its location said police.

The three students were charged with possession of a firearm and unlawfully carrying a weapon in a restricted place. All three are currently at the Youth Center of the High Plains said CPD.

In a Facebook post, Canyon ISD reported that school administration and law enforcement confiscated a weapon outside of Canyon High School.

CISD said that students and staff were safe at the time and classes carried on as planned.

CISD said it wants to remind students that possession of any type of weapon on school property is in violation of the law as well as the CISD Code of Conduct.
